The MSA at UK is committed to building an environment of brotherhood and sisterhood within the community. We are committed to creating a space on campus that teaches students how to become confident and conscientious individuals in a contemporary, pluralistic society. The MSA is open to people of any race, religion, and culture. As an organization, we aim to:
We provide an involving and fun environment for our members. Past events include a bonfire night, bowling nights, ice cream socials, basketball, Fajr & Folgers, Hiking, Picnic in the Park, Duhr & Doughnuts, Cupcake Decorating Contest, Potluck in the Paint, Isha & Ice Cream, and much more!
We aim to increase our Islamic knowledge through peer led discussions about Qur'an and other Islamic literature. Additionally each semester we work hard to bring a reknowned speaker for the benefit of not only the club but the community at large.
During the 2015-2016 Calendar year the MSA collectively served nearly 600 hours of community service. Some of the organizations we have worked with include Seadleaf, Habitat for Humanity, American Breast Cancer Foundation, God’s Pantry, the Hope Center, Wrap Up America, Stop Hunger Now, Students For Syria, Lexington Universal Academy, Martin Luther King Center, and the Share Center.
Some of the activities that take place during Islamic Awareness week are tabling events, panels, and community service opportunities. During IAW we made it on to the campus Snapchat story and reached out to over 7000 people! The UK MSA hopes the activities of the week will help bring us closer to establishing more unified community on campus.
